We all love something free, right? From now through early November, job search advice from leading resume writers, personal branding strategists, and career coaches, including myself, will be shared first via Twitter and then through a free e-book download.
One of the career industry’s premier professional associations, Career Directors International (CDI), crowd-sourced expert content from its members in digestible, tweet-sized bytes and rolled out its Super-Charge Your Job Search: Short, Sweet & Tweet educational social media campaign last week to provide job seekers with up-to-the-minute actionable job search advice.
Follow CDI on Twitter @careerhero or the hashtag #cdisst to receive eight job search tips each weekday, and look for social media announcements later this year on how to download the free e-book that will follow.
The career experts will share advice on the following nine topics:
- Job Search Focus – Tools and tactics that help get clear on career and/or job focus, including career assessments (formal and informal), personal branding, informational interviews (for career focus), job shadowing, mentor relationships, internship, or volunteering.
- Finding Jobs: Research of Targeted Organizations (Private, Non-profit, Government), Industries & Individuals – Online or offline research methods to find company or industry information and/or key influencer/decision makers, including informational interviews, direct to company websites, social search sites (e.g. LinkedIn, YouTube), online business directories, job boards, professional associations.
- Finding Jobs: Networking – Relationship-building and nurturing strategies or referral sources that would further a job search, including (a) With Whom: individuals (past employers, peer, colleagues, friends, vendors, suppliers, teachers, customers, mentors, coaches), groups – clubs and associations (online and offline – alumni, social networks, professional, community). (b) Why: job leads, referrals, company research, interviewer/people research, relationship building, online identity / subject management expertise building. (c): How: relationship building strategies, personal branding, online identity management.
- Finding Jobs: Job Boards & Website Job Centers – Strategies to help get the most out of job boards, and/or use them more efficiently and effectively, including applying for jobs, identifying industry trends and opportunities, specific and niche job board suggestions, job board tools, mobile and social tools.
- Finding Jobs: Career Fairs – Strategies to help get the greatest benefit from career fairs, including identifying beneficial fairs to attend; using personal branding; applying appropriate presentation and wardrobe; leveraging unique, memorable, and successful ways to connect with employers; savvy follow up strategies.
- Finding Jobs: Direct Sourcing by Recruiters & Employers – Techniques that help increase visibility and credibility to internal and external recruiters and employers for hire, including capitalizing on reputation management and dealing with digital dirt; personal branding; using social search sites (e.g. LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, etc.), professional association websites, and other websites/tools; and other offline methods.
- Finding Jobs: Temporary to Permanent Hiring – Strategies to help find and utilize employment agencies to gain permanent hires, including how to select and work with agencies, and strategies to stand out and make the transition to permanent hire.
- Finding Jobs: Print Advertising (Want Ads) – Techniques to best use print want ads in a job search, including creating documentation to stand out from the many applicants, understanding blind ads, understanding voicemail response systems, and identifying valuable ad resources such as newspapers and professional trade magazines.
